Requirements
The Trade Practices Mandatory Safety Standards as part of the Trade Practices (Consumer Product Safety Standard – Corded Internal Window Coverings) Regulations 2010 mandates all owners / landlords to comply from 1 July 2011.
Keeping Children Safe
Blind and curtain cords are a strangulation hazard to children, as they may become entangled in them while trying to use or play around window coverings.
Even with raised coverings, children can climb onto window sills or furniture and easily access cords. Infants sleeping or playing in cots placed near windows with loose cords could have dire consequences.
Checks + Rectifications
All residential and commercial premises that have any corded internal window coverings must have the cords fitted with the prescribed safety devices and warning labels. PCA not only checks corded window coverings, but we also rectify them to meet your owner’s legal obligations.
Non-compliance carries fines of up to $220,000 for individuals and $1.1 million for companies, on top of potential claims for compensation.
