There are many different brands and types of smoke alarms on the market, ranging in price from $39 to $299 depending on technology and model.
If a smoke alarm is removed or damaged during your tenancy, the landlord may be entitled to pass through the replacement cost.
Always contact your property manager or PCA before taking any action.

Common causes of beeping smoke alarms include:
Batteries that are loose or becoming flat

Smoke Alarm Responsibilities
Tenants have legal responsibilities in relation to smoke alarms. You are required to:
Test and clean (vacuum or dust) smoke alarms at least once every 12 months
Replace flat or nearly flat batteries
Advise the property owner or manager if there is any issue
Allow entry to install or rectify smoke alarms
Not remove the smoke alarm or battery (except for replacement)
Not paint, cover or reduce the effectiveness of the alarm
